Just joking.
However, Linden Lab is in formal meetings with the Emerald Development team, in order to:-
– enhance communication channels to resolve issues
– bounce ideas
– work together to enhance your immersion experience
– share ideas and implementation strategies
A random selection of various Emerald Viewer developers, vigorously discussing the pros and cons of Very Important Things
As our virtual world develops, it is exciting to see different viewers created by many talented people. I encourage people to try the different viewers available. Some available are Kirstens viewer, Imprudence, Cool Viewer, and of course Emerald.
You can research 3rd party viewers yourself here
Linden Lab officially encourages and supports an open platform.
You can take a trip to Emerald Point to download Emerald Viewer yourself in world.
***additional info***
From Modular Systems:-
“Over the course of the last year or so, more and more people have chosen to use the Emerald Viewer; so many in fact, that it is now the most used third party viewer in Second Life. As a result, it is undeniable that even the most incidental of changes in Emerald, when multiplied by the sheer amount of users, can cause drastic effects on the grid. We thus felt it was necessary to work more closely with Linden Lab to prevent any serious issues from occurring.”

haha! I’m much more fashionable 😀 and non controversial. I just put stuff out there so you can make your own well informed decisions. And I had heard Meerkat was not being updated? Please correct me if I’m wrong

I use snowglobe and I really like it, I use the test versions. Its not clunky and can handle my inventory very well

The old die-hard Snowglobe also have been gaining in features not in the “official” viewer (like viewer-based translator through Google).
I really like Emerald, but it’s becoming a bit heavy in the footprint. I really like the Imprudence as it have the most useful of the Emerald features (let’s face it, I won’t spend a lot of time staring at your primtits to see if they bounce or not.)
However, Snowglobe still seems to have the absolute best performance of all the viewers I have tried. Though Imprudence has apparently taken some of that code as the snapshot bug doesn’t exist in Snowglobe and Imprudence, but it lingers in all others, including the official viewer.
It’s a bit older, but this video comparison still applies with regard to viewer performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4ZqmvHFJBQ (A long video, but quite edifying.)

The snapshot bug in other viewers is a primary reason I stick to Snowglobe, and the fact it can load my shamefully oversized inventory without issue. Thank you for commenting, I wish more people would discuss viewers and the pros and cons – I see too much rabid hysterical rantings of a desperate minority. I applaud all of those smart and dedicated enough to contribute to the development of alternate viewers. I will check out the video too!

Heh – update: just noticed a viewer I didn’t know existed called “Snowglobe Frequency Edition” (http://www.sfreq.org/projects/show/snowglobe)
Proclaimed to be built off the Snowglobe code and including only selective features that are most popular in other viewers (such as double-click-TP, fast-loading of inventory, turning-off the “black screens” when telporting, logging-in and out and more of the actually *useful* features).
I am going to download it and give her a serious test drive this evening. (There are Windows, Mac OS-X (Intel-only!) and Linux versions) 🙂

hey, tell them to add the “worn” option, and fix the voice, on both ends! lol.
i love emerald but, i had to uninstal it because, of inventory issues… more then just losing it.

Playing with Snowglobe Frequency.
Stunning! All the performance (even better?) of Snowglobe and the best features of Emerald. Web site says active development, but hasn;t been updated since October – so hopefully it still goes and it’s just a holidays thing.

I found it to be crashy but that was yesterday when there were numerous issues in world anyway, so I might try it again today. Also, the video you did comparing viewers? Would you like to update it with current viewers as there has been much improvement since July. It could be a very useful tool then.

I do intend to do that. But rather than a video, this time I’ll just take screen grabs at 30-60-90 and 120 seconds from each. I intend to do all known viewers this time. But I will do it the weekend I reinstall my machine so I don;t have a lot of gunk laying around afterward. 🙂
