“In the worlds before Monkey, primal chaos reigned. Heaven sought order. But the phoenix can fly only when its feathers are grown. The four worlds formed again and yet again, as endless aeons wheeled and passed. Time and the pure essences of Heaven, the moisture of the Earth, the powers of the Sun and the Moon all worked upon a certain rock, old as creation. And it became magically fertile. That first egg was named “Thought”. Tathagata Buddha, the Father Buddha, said, “With our thoughts, we make the World”. Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch. From it then came a stone monkey. The nature of Monkey was irrepressible!”
I continued today on my great personal journey of discovery, this time wandering the Great Wall of China. This sim brought immediately to my mind, the now-cult classic “Magic Monkey” screened in Australia, New Zealand and the UK during the late 70s and early 80s. It reveals the journey of Monkey and his companions, as described in the book ‘Journey to the West’ by Wu Cheng’en. I decided this was an opportune time to commune with the monkey guardians at the Stone Monkey Temple.
It was a calming time for reflection as I sipped my coffee at 5am in a desperate attempt to awaken. Mondays are a killer.
I asked the ancient Sage Monkey if he had any words of wisdom for a pilgrim such as I, but he just growled at me and told me to go away. So I danced on the roof instead
